San Lorenzo and Medici
Chapels
San Lorenzo was first built in the 5th century as
the city's first cathedral. It was rebuilt in the 15th
century
by Brunelleschi in the Classical style of Renaissance.
The Cappelle
Medicee, mausoleum of the Medici's family, stand behind the church,
reachable by a separate entrance. The chapel contains four tombs, two
of them sculpted by Michelangelo, the tombs of Giuliano
and Lorenzo, son and grandson of Lorenzo the Magnificent.
