St. Martino Museum
A trip up the Montesanto funicular brings
the visitors to the top of the Vomero hill, where is
located the St. Martin Museum, organized in the splendid
St. Martin chartreuse.
The
museum holds mainly records of the history of Naples,
especially the costume collection and the festivities
section.
The
actual picture - gallery contains works by Salvator
Rosa and still-lives of the Posillipo school. Don’t
miss to visit the beautiful church wich offers an evocative
sight: Putti, rose - windows statues, inlays, balustrades,
columns, everything fits harmoniously in the architectural
structure.
Next to the chartreuse is St. Elmo castle,
a fortress built in 1329. Walking through the old prison,
the endless corridors, the steps, the huge square and
the church is an impressive experience.
