Santa Chiara
Church
The austere Gothic church
"Santa Chiara" was built by order of
Robert the Wise for his wife Sancia as a court chapel
around 1310. The architect
followed the strict rules of Franciscan poverty: only
one aisle with 10 chapels on each side. Even now its
very simplicity is its most inspiring feature.
The most interesting
monuments are the tombs of the Angevin monarchs.
The peaceful
cloister adds further charm with its majolica-tiled
pathways meander through a wild and beautiful garden
of roses and fruit trees.
