Umberto Gallery
The
Living Room of Naples
The Gallery was
built in 1887 right in the middle of the town, amongst
other famous buildings and churches, in order to be
cleared of its entangled lanes that were a nest of mainly
criminal activity.
The Gallery was
designed in pure Belle-Epoque style, similar to that
one built in Milan 20 years earlier.
The dome in glass and steel, 184 feet high,
the multicolored marble floor with the Zodiac and the
compass in Venetian mosaic were reconstructed after
being damage during the Second War.
