Ca'
d'Oro Palace
Discover the wonder
of Ca'd'Oro
This
beautiful Gothic palace along the Grand Canal of Venice
was originally covered in gold leaf, vermilion and ultramarine
decorations. The palace reveals Moorish influence in
its roof and sinuous pointed arches.
The
two rows open galleries give it a special lightness,
in particular at night when the facade is illuminated
and is reflected in the water below.
Gallery Franchetti
This
is one of the least notable work by Vittore Carpaccio,
originally consisted of 6 individual paintings telling
the story of the "Life and death of Virgin Mary".
However,
this is the only painting from the series that remains
in Venice while the others were given to various museums.
In
the gallery Franchetti inside Ca' d'Oro is a rich collection
of paintings by Mantegna, Bellini, Titian, Giorgione
and Tintoretto.
Francesco Guardi is considered
the most sensitive interpreter of his time showing the
decline of Venice.
In
this painting "Piazzetta San Marco" dated
around 1760 you can see Guardi's trademark. He often
preferred to present the common life of the people and
buildings forsaking the more affluent surroundings with
monuments or grandiose buildings.
