of San Rocco
The School of
Venice were religious confraternities administered by
wealthy Venetian's as charities for the needy. In 1564 the patrons
of San Rocco decided to decorate its walls and ceilings.
The paintings were executed by Tintoretto after the
artist had won the commission in a bitterly fought competition.

The artist shows
sincerity and devotion to the subject matter. Demonstrating
the desire to experiment with new techniques in his
representation of this painting.
Crucifixion by Tintoretto (5 x 12 meters) Is the
most extraordinary painting in the Scuola Grande
Di San Rocco, part of the Passion of Christ, considered
a must subject for young artists, as an example of the
coherence of the painting and the numerous variety of
characters.
