Monument to Colleoni by Verrocchio 1488
The
famous condottiere or commander of mercenaries Bartolomeo
Colleoni left his fortune to the city on the condition
that his statue would be placed in front of St. Mark.
However,
no monuments were allowed in the square, so the Senate
stretch the interpretation of the will to erect the
statue at St. Mark college.
